At a traditional zoo, animals are often far away, resting, or out of sight. At Zoocade, the holographic animals appear up close and in motion, moving through the space directly around you. You’ll see a life-size elephant or lion closer than you ever could at a real zoo — available rain or shine, any time of year.

Yes — as you move through the African environments, the experience incorporates information about the animals and their habitats. Several schools have brought students through the Africa experience as part of science and geography curriculum.

The Africa experience is suitable for all ages and is one of our most family-friendly shows. Children ages 5 and up get the full experience. Children under 3 are free. The Africa show tends to feel more awe-inspiring than scary, making it a great choice for families with a wide range of ages.

The Africa experience brings the wildlife of the African savanna to life around you — including lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, and more. These animals appear life-size through our laser hologram technology, moving through the environment around you as if you’ve stepped onto the plains of Africa.

The Hologram Zoo is a timed, scheduled experience — we recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends and during summer. Walk-ins are welcome but availability is not guaranteed. Book online through our reservations page to secure your preferred time slot.

Each show has approximately 30 minutes of content. After the experience, there’s a group photo opportunity and free keepsake (about 10–15 minutes). Plan for 45 minutes total for a single zoo visit, or up to 2–3 hours if you add Hologram Rooms, Verse Immersive, or time in the arcade.

There is no violence, no animals dying, and nothing gory. However, holographic animals do appear suddenly and move toward you, which can be surprising. Most children find it exciting rather than frightening, but very young or sensitive children may be startled. If your child is easily scared by sudden surprises, let our staff know and we’ll help prepare them.

The Hologram Zoo is designed to delight guests of all ages, but adults visiting without kids tend to get the most out of our other experiences. We’d recommend checking out Verse Immersive — our augmented reality theater — or heading next door to VieVR for one of their guided 40+ minute expeditions to ancient Egypt or prehistoric Earth. Both are immersive, sophisticated experiences that consistently wow adult guests. The Hologram Zoo is still worth a peek, but if you’re an adult looking for the full wow factor, Verse and VieVR are where we’d point you first.

No — the Hologram Zoo is not virtual reality and does not use a VR headset. You wear 3D glasses (similar to movie theater glasses) that allow you to see the holographic animals. Because you’re not wearing a headset and can see your real surroundings, there is no motion sickness. The experience is fully accessible and comfortable for guests of all ages.

Yes — the Hologram Zoo is fully wheelchair accessible. We’re located in a shopping center with accessible parking and restrooms nearby. If you have specific accessibility needs, call us at 512-351-7312 before your visit and we’ll make sure everything is ready for you.
